Blog Post #7: Discipleship

From these disciple presentations, I learned many new things. I learned something new about each discipleship. I did not know before that every disciple was crucified, except for one. I also learned that each disciple had changed their name when made a disciple. For example, the disciple Peter's real name is Simon. This was interesting to me. The disciples left everything behind to become a disciple, even their real name. Another thing that seemed to be a recurrence to me is that almost all the disciples were fisherman. I'm guessing this is just because of the time period, but I still found this to be interesting.
This is a photo where Jesus is present, where he did a lot of calling to his disciples.

The disciple I find most interesting is Judas. I find him interesting for many reasons. Jesus knew someone would betray him, and he chose Judas. Judah's original name was Surname, which means murderer in Latin. Judah was good disowned by his parents and a thief before becoming a disciple. Jesus chose him to be a disciple because he wanted to show love to his enemies. Judah eventually sold Jesus out to the Romans, and soon later hung himself in 30 A.D.
Jesus knew he would be betrayed, but still let Judas follow him to show love toward his enemies.

The disciples have many similar characteristics to each other, but also different characteristics. For example, they all changed their names when becoming disciples. Another similarity betweens the disciples (besides John) were crucified. Most disciples were killed because they were preaching Jesus' good news, and were punished for it. Most of all, the disciples were faithful in God and kept that faith until their end. They never lost faith, even in their hardest and most doubting times.
The disciples were devoted endlessly to Jesus.

I think I display some of these characteristics in my faith in God. I am not as devoted and faithful as the original disciples were, but I do have faith until some extent. It's crazy to think that these disciples were killed for their faith. It makes me think if there was an option to die because of my faith or live but no longer be faithful, what would I do? I feel like it's not a choice you can make; it's so hard to think about. I feel like this decision would have to made in the moment, but it is still a hard decision either way.
Jesus showed endless love for us, as we should do for him.
