From the Church History Textbook presentations, the topic I found most interesting was when Christians were being persecuted. Jews began persecuting Christians because they refused to worship the Emperor or other Roman gods. Because of this, they were blamed for many things, including natural disasters. It was thought the Roman gods were punishing Rome because the Christians would not worship them. An example of this was in 64 AD. A fire wiped out Rome, and the emperor said it was the Christians' fault, and therefore persecuted them in harsh ways. I think it is interesting to hear about my faith's history and hardships.
I enjoyed learning about Pope Paul XI the most. He really cared for the people, and wanted the best for them. He was pope around the time of the effects of the Vatican Council II. He pushed for the better of the Church. He put forward six effects in the end: renewal of scripture study, emphasis on religious freedom, focus on social justice, expanded role of laity, principle of collegiality, and renewal of eastern Catholic Churches. Pope Paul XI wanted solely the best for his people.
If I were to become an influential figure in history, I would want to be known for a couple things. First, I would want to be known as a caring, loving person. I would want to be known as someone who put others before myself. I would not want to be known as someone who did not care for others, or was mean. Overall, I would want to be remembered as loving, caring, and an overall good person.
Through challenges in my life, I have grown in many ways. You cannot grow without going through hardships. I have grown mentally, in a way that I have learned not everything will go my way. I have to make compromises, and sometimes sacrifices for the better of the situation or of others. Throughout these hardships, I have also grown stronger. I feel I am not as weak, and am stronger than before I had gone through these hardships.
