Blog Post #5: Parables

I learned many things from my group's presentation. First, I was reminded of my parable of the Prodigal Son. I hadn't heard the story in a while, so it was nice to be reminded. I liked making a video/skit, rather than a powerpoint presentation. I learned how to make an older version of a story into a modern-day version, which I found interesting. I learned some more details about the story, that I was not aware of before. For example, I learned that there were two sons. I do not remember knowing this. I like doing this project and researching a parable.

I learned many things from other group's presentations. I liked seeing how other groups interpreted their parables into a modern-day version. It was cool to compare them to how my group did them. I learned all about parables. I did not know any of these other parables, and I enjoyed learning about them. They were very interesting, and the skits made them even more interesting. The skits also helped to remember what the parables were about. When connected to a modern day version, it is sometimes easier to understand the actual parable. The other group's presentations really helped me to do this.

The moral or lesson I was affected most by was the vineyard parable. It was about men who worked in a field for a man, picking grapes for wine. Some men worked many hours a day, while others worked only one or two. Despite this, all the workers got the same amount of money as payment. The men who worked more hours, of course, were upset. The shepherd explained to them that he could do what he wanted with his money, and that the men who worked less hours still deserved as much money as he wanted to give them. The moral was that even if you do not work or do as much, it does not mean you deserve less. This is very important, and I will continue to remember this moral.

If Jesus were in our society today, I do not think he would be happy. I think he would be very disappointed in our society. Many people are violent and put others down. I think he would focus on no more violence, along with no more judgement and putting others down. I think he would try his best to tell stories to relate, and to explain to us how we need to save each other. I think Jesus would be patient and forgive us, but at the same time tell us that we need to change our ways to keep striving in our lives.
